Sat Sri Akal, and welcome to my academic website! My name is Dr. Angelpreet Singh, and I am a full-time faculty member in the Early Childhood Education Department in the Faculty of Applied Community Studies at Douglas College in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. Prior to joining Douglas College in 2021, I taught early childhood undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of British Columbia and the University of Western Ontario. I am also a mother of two beautiful young children.
I received my B.A. in Early Childhood Education from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson University) and my B.Ed. (Primary/Junior Grades K-6) and M.Ed. from York University’s Faculty of Education, focusing on family and community literacy. I continued my studies with a Ph.D. in Languages, Cultures and Literacies from Simon Fraser University’s Faculty of Education.
My scholarly interests include early childhood education, early childhood bilingualism, and preparing educators to use digital technologies to promote bilingualism and multilingualism. My dissertation research was entitled Early bilingual development in preschool and kindergarten: An ethnographic study of three Punjabi-speaking emergent bilingual learners in British Columbia. I am particularly interested in documenting the translanguaging practices of emergent bilinguals in formal and informal early childhood learning environments.
I invite you to explore my website to learn more about my scholarly work. Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.
